This is a perfect classroom activity for teachers. It's an Easy Paper Craft Activity for Kids that teaches about food allergies. The recipe that is used with this paper craft needs a lot of pears. So make sure you go to the store first if you are going to make them! You might not know that dogs can't eat pears because their seeds are poisonous. This activity, along with our club's activity sheets in this unit, teaches kids that people aren't the only ones with food allergies. Dogs have a lot of food allergies too. Science teachers and homeschooling families might also like our Experiment on Oxidation that uses pears, too. If you plan to use the Pearfect Buddy Pear Snack recipe, you may also want learn about knife safety, too.
My name is Cilie (pronounced like "silly" if you haven't met me yet), and I have a problem with my dog Buddy. I really need your help.
Buddy is a cattle dog that lives and works on my family farm in Co. Clare, Ireland. He has a terrible habit of stealing food out of our garden, out of the garbage can, and even out of my hands sometimes!
Buddy doesn’t understand that people food can make him sick, especially foods like:
There are other foods that are bad for dogs too, and maybe you know some of them. Can you name some foods that you know are bad for dogs to eat? Does anyone have a story to share about their own dog?
I know you can help me out. Would like you to make a poster for my dog Buddy?
Hang them up all over your classroom, house, or church. I will hang them up all over my house and in the sheds outside. This will remind Buddy how important it is for him to stay away from his food intolerances. It will also help remind kids how to stay food allergy safe.
